Abstract Interview of Sarah Cloud by Mary Jo Laws. Cloud discusses her background and Harlan Coal.

Interviewer's description-
"Sarah Cloud is a 77 year old woman, born in Blackwoods, Virginia. She grew up in the Harlan County coal camps. Her father drove a team of horses for the company store. Sarah completed the third grade in school. Sarah talks about her grandmother being a licensed midwife in the state of Virginia. She said people would pay her grandmother with chickens and garden food. She also tells about her sister and herself washing clothes for people and receiving cabbage heads as their pay. She married Bob Cloud at the age of 22. Her husband worked for RC Tway Coal Company. She recalls living through the depression and raising two children during WW II. Her husband served in WW II. While her husband was in the war Sarah said they received an allotment to purchase groceries with. She also tells of her husband killing an African American and spending seven years in prison. Sarah stated that she has lived a good life and doesn't regret any of it."
