Abstract Interview of Elsie Short by Debbie Vanover.

Interviewer's description-
"Elsie Short grew up in a coal camp in Harlan County, Kentucky. Music has always been part of her family life and she discusses the role of music in the coal camps, as well as, the place of music in her own life. Upon leaving Harlan County, she had a chance to make music a profession, but turned down the opportunity. Since returning to Harlan County, she has used her musical gifts in the church-she plays piano and sings in churches, at homecomings, community events, fund raisers and funerals. She sings an example of a childhood song she remembers and also sings and plays the piano to a song she wrote."
