Abstract Interview of Harold Noel Kaylor, Jr. by James B. Goode.

Interviewer's description-
"Mr. Kaylor was born at Benham, Kentucky, December 21, 1946, to a riveter and coal car repairman father and a school librarian mother. After attending local schools through junior high school he moved to Danville High School at Danville, Kentucky where he graduated in 1964. He earned a bachelor's degree in botany from the University of Tennessee and a master's degree in French language before being drafted into the U.S. Army and being sent to Vietnam as a Preventive Medicine Specialist. He later returned to complete a master's degree in German language and presently is completing a Ph.D. in Comparative Literature. The majority of this interview concern's Mr. Kaylor's tour of duty in Vietnam including: 1). induction; 2). basic training; 3). first impression of Vietnam; 4). assignment to a provincial hospital; 5). Vietnamese literature, art, culture, etc.; 6). characters he met in Vietnam; 7). mental condition of soldiers; 8). explanation of reasons for war, etc.; 9). French influence on Vietnamese culture; 10). American influence on Vietnamese culture; and 11). philosophy."
