Abstract Interview of Nettie Ellis by Kimberly Hall.

Interviewer's description-
"Nettie Ellis was born at Page, Kentucky. Her parents were Ed and Mellie Miracle. She recalls moving to Harlan at age nine. Her father was an unemployed railroad worker. Mrs. Ellis attended Harlan Elementary School and quit after the fourth grade and went to work. Mrs. Ellis met and married her husband at age 13 and had 13 children. All her children were born at Brookside, except two were born in Harlan. Her husband worked on the railroad at Brookside, Kentucky, where he operated a motor. She stated they lived in a four room house and all the children slept together. Mrs. Ellis talks about working at the Laundry in Harlan, Kentucky and attending Baptist Church on Sundays. She talked about growing and preserving their own food, having no indoor plumbing and their first radio. Her husband died August 21, 1967 and her grandson now lives with her."
