"Mrs. Johnson was born November 15, 1911 in Harlan County, Kentucky. She recounts her experiences in growing up on a mountain subsistence farm. She describes life in the Cumberland area. Topics here include: (1) coal mining, (2) midwifery, (3) shoe making, (4) soap making, (5) medical practices, (6) food preparation, (7) planting by signs, (8) anecdotes, (9) quilting, (10) shows some family artifacts, and (11) undertakers and grave yards."
