Abstract Interview of Bertha Mae Brown by James B. Goode. Brown discusses her background and the J.O. Mitchell Funeral Home.

Interviewer's description-
"Mrs. Brown was born in Claiborne County Tennessee in 1905. She met and married J.O. Mitchell, a Tazewell, Tennessee elementary school teacher, in 1925. He continued teaching for 25 years until he chose to attend the Louisville School of Mortuary Science and became a funeral director. He worked for Cleveland's Funeral Home in Middlesboro, Kentucky and later moved to Cumberland, Kentucky in 1951 to establish his own business. Mr. Mitchell recounts various aspects of the funeral business. Subjects include: (1) description of building in East Cumberland, (2) Mrs. Brown's role in business, (3) unusual requests, (4) difference between black funerals and white ones, and (5) the ambulance aspect of business."
