Abstract Interview of Alvin Boggs by Debra L. Bays. Boggs discusses the Pine Mountain Settlement School.

Interviewer's description-
"Mr. Boggs was born on Pine Mountain, Kentucky. He recalls the area not being very populated in 1924. There were no roads or mass communication, except for the post office. He said that there was no education before the Pine Mountain Settlement School was built. By 1934, he was in the 8th grade and lived at Putney, Kentucky. Mr. Boggs recalls hitch hiking from Totz, Kentucky to Layden, Kentucky in order to take a test to enter high school. Mr. Boggs said that the first time he heard the name 'high school,' he thought it meant a big, high, two-story building. He recalls taking Home Economics in school, because he wanted to be a chef on a cruise ship. In 1946, he married Ruth Smith and attended the Kentucky Mountain Bible College. He pastored in a mission for 15 months and then went to Hunnington Seminary and received his Bachelors degree in 1952."
