Abstract Interview of Ila Turner by Anna Turner.

Interviewer's description-
"Mrs. Turner grew up near Pine Mountain Settlement School and recalls being raised on a mountain farm. She began school when she was nine and finished the seventh grade when she was seventeen. She recalls becoming an assistant cook at Pine Mountain Settlement School for $1.00 per day and walking 12 miles round trip to work. She reminisces about workins (bean stringings, corn shuckings, log rollings, etc.), outdoor dancing parties, how mountain families were willing to help each other, self-sufficiency, school discipline (switchings, nose in a ring, wearing signs such as Tattler) and how kids entertained themselves, before the coming of television."
